A New Beginning at NWAFU: An International Student’s First Impressions

Just three days after arriving at Northwest A&F University (NWAFU), Hashem Al-Shehari, an international student from Yemen, has already begun a meaningful chapter filled with discovery, cultural exchange, and new aspirations.

From the first day on campus, the student actively sought opportunities to become part of the university community by joining the volunteer team. For him, volunteering is not only about helping others, but also about building friendships, developing teamwork skills, and learning from people with different cultural backgrounds.

One of the most memorable parts of his first days at NWAFU has been experiencing the university’s international atmosphere and Chinese culture. With a strong passion for learning Chinese, he was encouraged by the appreciation shown by teachers and fellow students toward his language ability. This positive experience has strengthened his motivation to continue improving his Chinese and integrating further into campus life.

Looking ahead, he is excited to begin his academic journey in Big Data and Data Science. Studying a technical discipline in a second language presents challenges, but he believes that dedication, persistence, and continuous learning are essential for achieving his goals. His current ambition is to work hard, achieve excellent academic results, and become one of the outstanding students in his cohort.

Reflecting on his arrival experience, he described NWAFU as a welcoming and supportive environment. Teachers, international students, and volunteers provided assistance and encouragement, helping him quickly feel a sense of belonging. He also appreciated the peaceful campus surroundings, which provide an ideal atmosphere for study and personal growth.

Although only a few days have passed since his arrival, he already feels excited about the opportunities ahead. For him, studying at NWAFU is not only an academic journey, but also a chance to explore new cultures, build meaningful relationships, and grow into the person he hopes to become.
